FAQ

“What kind of activities do you offer?”

The Center offers a variety of activities, the descriptions and times of which can be found on our monthly activities calendar. You can also find details in the classes and special events section of our website.

“Where can I find next month’s calendar?”

We only release our calendar by the month, as we are often in the process of planning seminars and special events. Many times collaborating and adjusting times to everyone’s schedule means that we are not able to get too far ahead. However, our classes follow regular schedules and almost never change times from month to month.

“I am looking for a nursing home or assisted living facility for myself or a loved one.”

The Senior Center of South Pearl River County is an activity center for seniors. We are only open during the day, and do not have the facilities or the staff to provide the appropriate care for anyone needing nursing home, assisted living care, or an adult day care. We can provide contacts to local facilities, but we do not provide them at the Center.

“What do I have to do to join the Senior Center / what are the requirements?”

There is no membership fee to join the Center. Anyone 50 and over is welcome. In order to join, you need to sit with a staff member and fill out a form. We are also a congregate meal site, serving lunch Monday through Friday, if you are 60 and over you qualify for this program as well at no charge.

We require that each person be capable of caring for themselves. We do not have medical staff, are not an adult day care and cannot be liable for seniors who need such assistance.

“Where can I find transportation to the Center or around town?”

We are pleased to have a good relationship with Community Development, Inc., a service which is able to provide transportation to seniors 60 and over who live in Pearl River County. You will need to contact them for full details. The Senior Center itself does not own a bus and is not able to provide transportation.

“Do you rent your facilities?”

YES we do. More information is available here.

“Do you know where I can get assistance with food, housing, utilities, legal aide, etc.?”

There is a list of resources available here. If you need further help, please do not hesitate to contact us.
